when you make a mistake, just press Ctrl-Z. It's the hotkey for undo.

Oh, and to unselect, just click on a random place in the project with nothing in it.
It'll select whatever you click (and deselects everything else),
so when you click nothing, it selects nothing.
doesnt work
it should, though. works for me.
Try looking around the "Preferences". The problem may be in the options.
